What is Dance Movement Therapy (DMT)?

The Indian Association of Dance Movement Therapy (IADMT) defines DMT as a psychotherapeutic process to promote cognitive, social, emotional and physical integration. DMT can assist people undergoing emotional and physical health challenges. Integrated techniques provide relief for anxiety, communication issues, body image issues, body negativity, depression, disordered eating, low self-esteem, and PTSD.

What Happens in a Manoshala’s DMT Group Session?

Our bodies are one of the magical things about humanhood that they are complicated yet simple. It shows up for us even without asking. Thus, having a positive relationship with our bodies is one of the most important things. This workshop will allow you to look at yourself more than what people tell you. You will map your thoughts through guided activities like mirroring, understanding physical signals, and finding out closed places inside you with our licensed DMT therapist.  Through this workshop, you will explore, and create awareness about your body, color, race, weight etc.

For example, if you’re undergoing disordered eating which is affecting your perspective about your body, DMT helps you in changing that relationship with your body by working on self-acceptance and self-esteem.

Who Can Attend a DMT Group Session?

If you are b/w 18 and 38 years of age belonging to any gender and finding it difficult to accept yourself or your body. Please join us for a 90 minutes virtual session conducted in Hindi and English with a pen, paper, and an open mind.  If you need an in-person session or  workshop for your organization, please contact us at community@manoshala.com.
